Bill Clinton REVEALS why he wrote a White House thriller novel | Books | Entertainment


The 71-year-old was President of the United States from 1993-2001 and has drawn on his insider experience of the office in a new novel, his first work of fiction.

Working with the world’s best-selling author, Patterson, Clinton wrote The President Is Missing – a political thriller set in and around the White House.

The book sees the US in danger after a cyber attack and the president suddenly goes missing.

Now the plot may be a story, but it shows the reality of what could happen to the Commander-In-Chief in the most extreme of circumstances.

According to the , Clinton was a fan of the Patterson’s work and has read all of his Alex Cross books.

The former US president said: “I didn’t read much murder fiction or thrillers until the early 1980s and I just got into them.”

On using his personal knowledge as POTUS, he added: “What I want people to see is that this is real people doing real work.

“It matters. They make decisions. They affect your lives.”

He added: “We really tried to make it as accurate as possible.”

The President Is Missing is also set to become a drama TV series with Showtime.

The network’s CEO said: “The pairing of President Clinton with fiction’s most gripping storyteller promises a kinetic experience, one that the book world has salivated over for months and that now will dovetail perfectly into a politically relevant, character-based action series for our network.”

The President Is Missing is published today.
