Canadian Grand Prix CRASH: Brendon Hartley slams wall and takes out Lance Stroll | F1 | Sport

The Canadian Grand Prix got off a thrilling start with Max Verstappen battling Valtteri Bottas at the front of the grid.

But the safety car had to be deployed just five turns into the race in Montreal after Hartley slammed hard into the wall before taking out Stroll.

The New Zealand driver made a brave move on the outside at Turn 5 with Stroll pushing him hard.

But Hartley was soon sandwiched between Stroll’s Williams car and the wall before the former was launched into the air as he made big contact with the wall.

The Toro Rosso racer was then powerless as his car rolled down the track with his rivals weaving out of the way.

But Stroll was collected by Hartley’s damaged car to end both young drivers’ races early.

Fortunately both drivers were able to walk away from the big incident.

The Canadian said on radio that he had a puncture before the crash while Hartley stated “he just ran me out of road”.

The safety car had to be deployed as stewards attempted to swiftly clear up the wreckage before it returned to the pits on lap four.

Upon replays of the incident, it appeared Stroll pushed Hartley into the barriers after getting heavy oversteer.

The crash is currently under investigation by race stewards.
