Liverpool transfer news: Jurgen Klopp gets Xherdan Shaqiri boost despite Man Utd interest | Football | Sport

Shaqiri looks set to move on this summer after Stoke were relegated to the Championship.

Liverpool have led the charge all summer but Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is also said to be keen on the Swiss star.

Shaqiri has impressed in Russia, scoring a brilliant goal in the 2-0 win over Serbia.

And with Switzerland being dumped out of the World Cup by Sweden on Tuesday a move could edge closer in the coming day.

And bookmakers BetStars believe Liverpool are still in the driving seat.

A BetStars spokesperson said: “Liverpool have emerged as the 11/8 favourites to sign Xherdan Shaqiri.

“Despite the fact Stoke City were relegated from the Premier League last season, Shaqiri was one of the Potters’ better players, scoring eight goals during the campaign and Liverpool’s interest was piqued as the Swiss playmaker was a crucial part of his national team’s World Cup campaign.

“Manchester United are also in the running to sign Shaqiri and they are not far off the pace at 2/1.

“Shaqiri would add some creativity to United’s midfield and could help to provide Romelu Lukaku with more goalscoring opportunities.

“West Ham are also in the market for the Stoke City man and are priced at 3/1 to bring Shaqiri to the London Stadium.

“Southampton are also on Shaqiri’s radar, where he could link up with former manager Mark Hughes. The Saints are 5/1 to be Shaqiri’s next club.

“Arsenal and Premier League newcomers Wolves round up the betting at 7/1 and 10/1 respectively.”

Shaqiri admitted he wants to be on the move when asked about next season and said a deal was close to being announced.

“I want to stay in the Premier League, and you will find out my new club soon,” he said.
