M60 traffic latest: Motorway closed at Greater Manchester after horror three vehicle crash | UK | News


Greater Manchester Police were called to the location at 3.35am following an accident involving three cars. 

Highways England say the anti-clockwise section of the motorway between junction 19 and junction 18 is expected to be “remain closed for several hours”.

Overhead signs on the motorway say the carriageway will be shut “until at least 11am”.

The affected stretch is between the junction for Middleton Road, at Heaton Park, and Simister Island, the busy interchange with the M62 and M66.

The vehicles trapped in the traffic have been since released.

Two of the vehicles involved in the crash are resting in lane one with the third having overturned into lane four, resting on the central reservation.

Disruption is to be expected as traffic is already very slow in the surrounding areas, and motorists are being advised to allow extra time for their journey. 

Police are on the scene to conduct investigation. 

Greater Manchester police said on Twitter: “A man has sadly died following a collision on the M60.

“The anti-clockwise carriageway remains shut between J18 and J19 as enquiries are carried out.

“Two other men taken to hospital with injuries.”

Road users are being advised to follow the “Solid Circle” diversion symbols:

  • Exit the M60 at junction 19.
  • At the roundabout follow the A576 southbound.
  • At the A576/A6044 junction turn right onto the A6044 (westbound).
  • Continue untinl the A6044/A56 junction.
  • At the junction turn right on to the A56 (northbound).
  • Continue to the roundabout then take the first ext and rejoin the M60 at junction 17.
